Cocaine anonymous, or CA, is a world-wide self-help group, or fellowship of men and women who regularly meet in local communities to share their experiences of active addiction and recovery with one another.
Cocaine Anonymous derives its programme of recovery from the book, Alcoholics Anonymous, using the 12 steps. Members are encouraged to abstain from cocaine and all other mind altering substances and use the concept of one addict helping another to good affect. The therapeutic value of this concept has been proven to work for millions of alcoholics and addicts since the inception of Alcoholics Anonymous in 1935.
Cocaine Anonymous is a spiritual based programme centred in the belief of an individualised concept of a Higher Power, or power greater than the individual, that will care for and help maintain a healthy lifestyle free from addiction.
The 12 step programme of Alcoholics Anonymous is not allied with any sect, religion or denomination, or organised in any way. It is a self-funded entity by the donations of its members and is free to join.
Most treatment facilities incorporate access to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings as part of their therapeutic programme and encourage attendance post-treatment.
