DO I HAVE A PROBLEM?

If you are unsure if you have a problem with alcohol or drugs and whether or not you need help, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do other people comment on or criticise your drinking or drug use?
  • "Have you ever needed to drink or use drugs in the morning to steady your nerves, relieve withdrawal symptoms or to get over a hangover?
  • Do you think about drink or drugs, even when you are not using them?
  • Is your drinking or drug use becoming more frequent and in higher amounts?

If you have answered 'Yes' to any of the above questions it is likely that you have a drink or drug problem. Freedom Treatment Agents are here to help you find the most appropriate treatment available to fit your circumstances and lifestyle. Please complete a self-assessment by clicking here.

DOES SOMEONE I CARE ABOUT HAVE A PROBLEM?

Sometimes the problem is obvious, although often it is hidden or denied out of shame, guilt and remorse. Ask yourself the following:

  • Have you noticed a marked change in behaviour (including coming home late, missing appointments, changing habits and routines)?
  • Does he/she have severe mood swings that are out of the ordinary?
  • Have you noticed a change in bodily appearance (including weight, poor skin, sweating, hand shakes, etc)?
  • Has there been a change in financial circumstances or have you noticed items have gone missing, possibly sold? Is he/she committing crime?
  • Does he/she isolate and/or seem depressed?
  • Is he/she obviously intoxicated but denies it?

If you have answered 'Yes' to these questions it is likely that your loved one has a drink or drug problem. You may be anxious to confront your loved one or demand that they get help however people who are addicted to substances or behaviours tend to deny their problems, allowing them to build up until breaking point. Your loved one is more likely to respond well to an offer of help if you are compassionate and understanding, taking a non-judgemental stance and demonstrating that you care, which is best achieved through a professionally-led crisis intervention If you believe your loved one has a drink or drug problem and you would like to discuss how a crisis intervention could be beneficial, please telephone 08456 446 041 or complete a self-assessment self-assessment.

SELF-ASSESSMENT

In order that we better serve you, we ask that you please complete a self-assessment, which is a confidential questionnaire and should take no more than 5 minutes to complete. The self-assessment will give us a broad insight into the problems you or your loved one are facing and some indications as to the most appropriate treatment.

Assessments are overseen by a psychiatrist and occasionally we may require additional information. We therefore ask that you submit a telephone number so that we can call you to discuss. We would like to assure you of our discreet approach and absolute respect of your confidentiality.

IN PERSON ASSESSMENTS

Occasionally we are asked to conduct assessments in person, which can be arranged either at our central London offices or at a convenient location for you (however charges may apply, which will be discussed prior to confirming an appointment). Please telephone 08456 446 041 to discuss these options with a consultant.

EMERGENCY ADMISSIONS

Should you or your loved one require an immediate or emergency admission for treatment, detoxification or hospitalisation, we suggest telephoning us on 08456 446 041 (during office hours) or 07799 143 431 (out of hours) to discuss your circumstances and we will endeavour to refer and place you within a suitable facility within 24 hours.

MEDICAL INSURANCE

If you hold private medical insurance, it is likely that you will be covered for some or all of you treatment. Please be sure to let us know who you are insured with and to what level when you call.

NO FUNDING AVAILABLE

If you do not have the financial means to privately support the cost of your treatment you might qualify for state funding through your local Community Drug and Alcohol Team (CDAT). FTA has relationships with many CDATs and will help you through the application process, from initial assessments to interviews and eventual placement. To discuss your circumstances and whether FTA can help, please telephone 08456 446 041.

If you or your loved one would like help with alcoholism or an addiction, or if you would like to discuss how a crisis intervention might be beneficial, please call 08456 446 041 for a free consultation, or complete an self-assessment.
